What are you saying?
Once you’ve identified the problem you solve and your target market, it’s time to let people know you exist and start marketing your product or service. This is done through your marketing messaging, which is any communication or media created to influence or persuade prospective customers. This consists of demand creation, building brand awareness and actual selling.
Consider the following:
- Tell a good, convincing story that is relatable to the audience.
- Appeal to people’s emotions. With the number of ads and content the average person consumes in a day, this is not only harder than ever, but more critical than ever, so make sure you grab their attention, play on emotion, make the reader feel good and they’ll likely connect with your brand.
- Be consistent. Repetition is easy for memorization purposes, so being consistent is what helps you not only be memorable, but to remain front of mind should their need for your brand exist, whether it be today, or sometime in the future.
- Be crystal clear. People are looking for products and services that make their lives easier all the time, and you need to clearly articulate how you can meet those needs.
- Speak their language. Create messaging the sounds the way your audience speaks and avoid overly complex words, slang, too many acronyms and technical jargon. If you confuse people, they’ll quickly move on to the next thing.
- Keep the message short. If you’ve done 1-5 effectively, a short message is all it takes.
- Be to the point. Studies have found that the average attention span is less than 10 seconds and getting shorter, so grab their attention, play on their emotion, be clear, and speak their language.
- Lastly, KEEP IT SIMPLE.
The way you message is critical in marketing effectively, so take some time to really build things out and implement and iterate often based on objective data and the feedback of your target audience.
With the proper team in place, accomplishing these things can be done time and time again. However, constant iterations are key to staying that way for the long haul.
